THE GREEN CYCLE PATH.

The Green Cycle Path along the Two Seas Canal and the surrounding hillsides.

The Canal de Garonne links Toulouse to Bordeaux. The canal was built in the 19th century to facilitate the tranport of goods to the port of Bordeaux as the river Tarn could not be counted on throughout the year. Connected to the Canal du Midi, a World Heritage Site, it links the Atlantique Ocean to the Mediterraneen Sea, hence its name The Two Seas Canal (Canal des Deux Mers).

In recent years it has become the "must do" cycle route of South-West France, called the Green Cycle Path.

The towpath is flat and shaded with a rich and diverse heritage, enjoyed by confirmed cyclists and families.

Testimony of Valérie, mother of Yann (3 years' old) and Céline (1 year old): "We live in Toulouse and wanted to share with our children active holidays. They are rather small and it is not easy to please everybody ! Some friends lent us a bicycle and a trailer which was ideal for the children. The towpath is feasible except for the small rises around locks. It's flat so there is no problem to pull a trailer. We are not highly skilled cyclists but we did manage 70 km a day : our first stop was at Moissac where we stayed in an hotel by the canal. An inexpensive, stress free holiday which gave us a bit of sport and a change from our daily routine".

The Green Cycle Path of Moissac

The Green Cycle Path goes through the centre of town where you can stop for a gourmet break, shopping or a visit of the town’s heritage : the Cacor Canal Bridge, the port, the revolving St Jacques bridge, the Doctrinarian Monks’ school with its baroque chapel, the St Catherine Church.

4 minutes from the canal stands Moissac Abbey, you can park your bike in complete safety. Since 2016, we have created a special reduced price for GREEN TRAVELLERS.
