THE CHASSELAS GRAPE
The Chasselas de Moissac AOP (Protected Designation of Origin in the UK) since 1971 is a table grape, golden of colour with a translucent skin, sweet and delicate. Second producer in France of table grapes after the Muscat grapes from Vaucluse.
This grape is a local speciality since the 18th century. Its production requires a know-how, handed down from generation to generation. Inseparable from the history of Moissac, it is a unique part of its heritage.
The history of Chasselas is written in the street of the town. On the banks of the Tarn, the Uvarium Pavilion reminds us that the town was elected "France First Uva Resort" in 1930.
More than 300 Chasselas producers harvest 3,000 to 3,900 tons of grapes. 1,200 hours per annum per acre of manual work is needed to generate 13 tons of fruit. Harvested by hand, the bloom of the grape must be golden and matt, proof of its quality. The Chasselas grape is unique, cultivated in bio-dynamic farming and in the respect of the natural environment.
The Therapeutic Virtues of the Chasselas Grape
The Chasselas grape like other grapes is known for its diuretics qualities, it eases digestion and draws out toxins. Rich in vitamins A, B and C, low in protein and fat, it is an excellent antioxydant and eliminates bad cholesterol. It is used in the prevention of cardiovascular disease. It is full of minerals necessary to good health.
Grape Cure and Body Treatment
In 1925, Moissac became a centre of excellence for grape treatment. As a resort for grape treatment a Pavilion was built for this purpose.
Today, Moissac and its producers have decided to reinstate the Chasselas Grape to be eaten as a treatment or used for body care.
To this effect, different packages are offered : body and facial treatment.

Moissac "Site Remarquable du Goût"
This label put into place by the government in 1995 established a list of 100 outstanding tourist and gastronomic communes, according to certain criteria : "Site remarquable du Goût".
